How Cricklade Hardware uses the details you give us, in plain English. Last updated 4 November 2026.
Who we are
Cricklade Hardware is run by Paul Harris at 102 High Street, Cricklade, SN6 6AA. Paul is responsible for your personal information (the "controller").
Contact Paul about anything on this page: email [email protected], call the shop on 01793 354752, or come into the shop.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us:
- When you message, call or email: your name, phone number or email address, and what you write. On WhatsApp this can include photos you send, such as a key, a room or the wording for a sign.
- When you order something made or posted: the wording or design for your order, and the name and address it's going to.
- When you pay: a record that you paid. If you pay by a card link, the card details go straight to the payment company. We never see your full card number.
The website doesn't have accounts, forms or a shop checkout. We use Google Analytics to see how people find and use the site, but only if you accept it on the cookie bar when you first visit. There's no advertising and we never sell your details. See Cookies below.
Why we use it
- To answer your question, check stock and put things aside for you.
- To make, engrave and post your order, and send you a proof first. (The legal basis is to carry out your order, or to take steps you asked for before ordering.)
- To keep the business records the law requires, such as sales records for HMRC. (The legal basis is a legal obligation.)
We don't send marketing messages, and we never sell or share your details for anyone else's marketing.
Who else sees it
- WhatsApp (run by Meta), if you message us there. WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to that chat.
- Royal Mail, the name and address on a parcel we post for you.
- The card payment company, if you pay by a card link.
- Our accountant or HMRC, if they need our business records.
- Our website host, which keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run the site safely.
How long we keep it
Messages and order details are kept for as long as we need them to handle your order and any questions about it. Sales records are kept for as long as the law requires, then deleted.
Cookies
When you first visit, a bar asks whether you accept Google Analytics. Nothing is measured until you choose.
- Google Analytics counts visits and shows us which pages people use and whether they tap Call, WhatsApp, Email or Directions, so we can make the site more useful. It only sets its cookies and measures you if you tap Accept. If you Decline, or ignore the bar, it stays off. It doesn't record your name, and we don't use it for advertising. Your choice is remembered on your device; to change it, clear this site's data in your browser and the bar comes back.
- The map on the homepage is Google Maps. When it loads, Google may set cookies and receive your IP address. Google's privacy policy applies to it.
- The fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address so it can send the font files.
The Directions, Call, Email and WhatsApp buttons only open Google Maps, your phone, your email or WhatsApp when you tap them.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Just ask Paul using the details above. There's no charge, and we'll reply within one month.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, please tell Paul first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
